Jaipur Festivals-Unifying People to Indulge in Cultural Festivities

Jaipur, the “Pink City” hosts various colourful events, which add popularity to Jaipur tourism. Being a part of the royal state of Rajasthan, the city boasts of its rich cultural heritage. This has gifted the city with a number of vibrant events. Tourists specially embark on Rajasthan festival tour to experience the festivity.

Some of the most famous festivals of Jaipur include:

Teej

Celebrated with great enthusiasm, Teej is a wonderful occasion, dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva and Parvati. On the occasion, married women pray to God for a long and blissful marital life. Though celebrations for this colourful events are held throughout the state, yet the occasion holds a  great importance in the city. Visit Jaipur to witness a procession that proceeds through the heart of the old city. Women attire themselves in their best clothing and enjoy spending time in groups at swings that are especially erected for this occasion.


It is celebrated on Holi where all elephants are decorated with jewellery, garlands and gulal or coloured powder. Female elephants wear gorgeous anklets and their owners boastfully display the talents of their elephants to the public. Dances, elephant polo and tug-of-war games between the elephants are the highlights of this Jaipur festival. At last, the splendidly adorned elephants and their owners win prizes.

The International Kite Festival

The event marks the festivity of Makar Sankranti. It is an Indian event, which gladly receives the arrival of the spring. It is the biggest occasion that brings all family members, old and young.Sankranti. On the three-day event, the sky gets filled with the colourful kites, which you can experience with Jaipur trip. 

It starts on the day of Sankranti at the Jaipur Polo Ground where Indian Air Force helicopters release kites in the sky and children release balloons from the ground. A kite flying competition is also organized where participators strive for their kites’ design. On the last day, the kite fight is held and the winner is awarded.

The Jaipur Literature Festival

It is an annual literary event, began in 2006. The small ethnic Hotel Diggi Palace serves as the venue and beckons over 30,000 literary lovers to embark on Jaipur tour. In 2006, it started as a part of the Jaipur Heritage International Festival and then it became an independent event in 2008. Since then, it has been celebrated with great interest.
